Short Story
A young girl, Marie, was getting ready to Graduate from High School. A day that everyone looks forward to. Her grandfather was not doing well. He was battling cancer. Lung Cancer. Marie was heartbroken and sad for her grandfather. Before her graduation, she got a picture with him. Unfortunately, this picture she would never see. Her grandfather could not make it to her graduation. She went to her graduation. It was a great day for her. That night Marie went up town and drove around. She had saw her younger sister. She was not happy, Marie didn’t know why her sister had thrown something at her car as she was driving. Marie just blew it off. Marie decided to keep driving. Next thing Marie knew was that another young girl was yelling at her. Marie had decided to stop at this young girl to find out why she was yelling at her. She found out the young girl’s name was Ann.
Ann had a brother. Ann told Marie that her brother was seeing Marie’s younger sister. Marie was curious to meet him. Marie asked Ann if she lived in town and how far from where they were. Ann said it was not far. Marie had decided to tell Ann to get in the car and she would take Ann home. Once they had arrived at Ann’s home. They walked in. Ann introduced her brother to Marie. Marie could not understand why her younger sister was with him. Marie started talking to him. Turns out Marie like him. His name was Lee. Marie started seeing Lee that night. Graduation night.
Marie had taken Lee to go see her grandfather. Marie had told Lee that her grandfather was not doing good and how he had cancer. Once Marie took Lee to go see her grandfather. Lee realized that his grandmother had lived in the same town as Marie’s grandfather. Even more crazier the same trailer park. Marie’s grandfather lived on one side of the park, and Lee’s grandmother on the other side. Marie could not believe it. It was so crazy that their grandparents lived so close to each other.
Over the month Marie would hang out over at Lee’s house and had spent the night there thru out the month. They had been in the room that Lee was staying in at the time. There was a window. Marie would just stare at the window because of what was coving the window. There was a towel or small blanket that was covering the window. What was on it was the number 28. Marie just could not stop looking at it. It had been a month since Marie and Lee had been dating. Marie’s grandfather had gotten worse in that month. Marie had spent the night at Lee’s house.
It was the morning of the 28th. Early in the morning, Marie had been woken up to her name being called. She got up and she looked around. She looked over at Lee. He was still asleep. There was no way he had called Marie’s name. She could not go back to sleep. Maybe about 20 minutes went by. Marie had received a phone call. She picked it up. It was Marie’s mom telling her that her grandfather had passed away. Marie was very sad.
Marie was so heartbroken after her grandfather had passed away. She was trying to understand why he had to go. She had turned to her bible. She had read it many times before. Revelation 21:4 had gotten her thru after her grandfather had passed away.
Revelation 21:4
“And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away.”
Marie had turned to that bible verse for comfort. To know that her grandfather was no longer in pain. He was no longer hurting knowing that he was no longer suffering and in so much pain because of the cancer. She was still sad but knowing that her grandfather who believed in Jesus Christ was ok and with Jesus. That helped her so much.
My View
The number 28 that Marie kept staring at was the day that her grandfather had passed away. I believe that God was trying to tell her that something was going to happen on the 28th. Marie just did not know what. Her name being called could have been a way of God telling her that something had happen. She just did not realize until it had happened. Revelation 21:4 had brought her comfort to know that he was ok and not suffering anymore.
